Woman with Cerebral Palsy Will Celebrate her Birthday in Style

Lori Dawn of Colonial Heights, VA, can’t wait for her birthday celebration this year. The 42-year-old woman, who has experienced health problems her entire life due to her cerebral palsy and other issues, has long loved examining the bridal attire in magazines and online with her mother, Grace Swearingen. Realizing that Lori is unlikely to get married herself, Grace started planning a wedding-themed birthday party for her daughter. Lori will wear her mother’s wedding dress, have a short horse-and-carriage ride, and even walk down an aisle set up at her house, which will be decorated in white lights thanks to family and friends. Many people have donated their time and gifts to support Lori and her party, including a friend who sent a necklace for her wear and a man who donated a marquise diamond for her ring finger.

Although Lori can’t talk much and is in frail health, she has overcome many problems to get as far as she has. Doctors didn’t expect her to survive after her birth, but she not only survived, she was able to live comfortably at home and learn to walk and talk a little bit. Neighbors and friends love Lori and are looking forward to supporting her on her special day, which is sure to be magical for everyone involved. As Grace says, “It’s not about anything but somebody seeing her dream come true.”
